Who We Are

The Arc of Stark County was founded in 1952 when a small group of parents met and organized to inform the community about the educational, emotional, and physical needs of individuals with developmental disabilities and their families. That council was responsible for the first educational programs in Stark County for children with developmental disabilities. Classes began in June of 1953.

Today, The Arc of Stark County, Inc., is an advocate and source of support for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD), their families, and other professionals who serve them. It is a member agency of the Greater Stark County United Way with otherwise diverse funding sources. The organization is a local affiliate of both The Arc of the United States and The Arc of Ohio. The Arc is a national membership organization and a non-profit corporation. (The Arc of the United States is the 13th largest charitable organization in the country, and the largest volunteer organization.)

Programs and services of The Arc of Stark County, Inc. include family and individual advocacy, education and awareness, legislative advocacy, summer respite, and support groups for families and individuals.

Celebrating Over Sixty Years of Serving Stark County
